The text score for "williamstown nocturne" was created to facilitate a reflective evening performance on the occasion of the 2022 I/O Festival for contemporary music. Organist and composer Jack Langdon lead the student musicians of Williams College's I/O Ensemble in a workshop which focused on various listening and performing techniques to assist in the exploration of reduced, collective musical gestures. These exercises were then applied to the constraints and prompts of the text score and performed for a small local audience. Positioned in the reverberant chancel of the sanctuary, all the tones immersed the audience, who sat in the choir stalls surrounding the ensemble.
